The Senior ECHO/Vascular Diagnostic Specialist - serves as the Technical Director with responsibility for the daily operations of both the vascular and echocardiography lab. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining accreditation of the labs, serves as a resource for staff, and the coordination of patient scheduling and daily work assignments. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing and updating protocols, coordinates technical training for sonographers, organizes and maintains monthly QA programs. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining proper working condition of all ultrasound equipment in the lab by diagnoses basic equipment malfunctions. In the absence of the Echo/Vascular Lab Manager, this position will act as a resource for the team. The position performs the most complex professional level assessments in a variety of peripheral vascular and cardiovascular studies, including adult congenital cases. The position requires the incumbent to have advanced knowledge of cardiac and peripheral vascular anatomy, physiology, and disease process. The incumbent independently performs clinical examinations on adults and occasionally on adolescents and pediatric age groups. The examinations are predominately performed in the Heart and Vascular Non-Invasive Diagnostic Testing Lab and include portable examinations, which are done on inpatient units when the patient cannot be transported to the lab, the cath lab, and outpatient sites at East and West Clinic locations. The incumbent has daily contact with professionals and families, both inside and outside the hospital setting. The Senior ECHO/Vascular Diagnostic Specialist encounters difficult problems related to examination evaluations on a daily basis, and must resolve them by using creative scheduling to prioritize requests, serving our patients with same day access. The incumbent is able to assist with all echo and peripheral vascular tests as listed in the clinical activities section below. The Senior ECHO/vascular Diagnostic Specialist serve as a liaison and clinical instructor for the UW School of Diagnostic Ultrasonography, and participate in the instruction of fellows, residents, and visiting physicians. The incumbent may also participate in clinical research, and acts as a clinical resource for other staff. The Senior ECHO/vascular Diagnostic Specialist implements changes in procedures, policies, and quality improvement, coordinates the training and development of Associate and Objective level diagnostic specialists, keeping them advised of technological changes. The incumbent identifies potential cost savings and is fiscally responsible. 1. Bachelor of Science Degree or specialized training in a health related field, such as Biological Sciences, Nursing, Radiology, or other Health Science required. 2. Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in both Peripheral Vascular Testing and Adult Echocardiography required. 3. Registered in both Peripheral Vascular Testing and Adult Echocardiography Current CPR Certification required. 4. Knowledge of transthoracic echocardiography, stress echocardiography, dobutamine echocardiography, and transesophageal echocardiography examinations. 5. Knowledge of peripheral vascular non-invasive testing in all areas. 6. Excellent communication and customer service skills. 7. Ability to maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgment. 8. Analytical decision making skills necessary to quickly assess and resolve technical, and patient care problems and issues. 9. Strong interpersonal skills in relating to medical and hospital staff. 10. Physical Requirements: Light: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
