At Aurora Health Care our Phleboto! mists independently perform specimen procurement and specimen ! handling for hospital and other affiliates and outreach clients (i.e., nursing homes, home health agencies, industrial clients, police departments, etc.). They utilize client service skills to act as a liaison between laboratory and laboratory clients .

Imagine yourself…
Verifying positive patient identification to ensure patient safety. Assessing patient reactions to specimen procurement.
Independently performing venipuncture and collecting other specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol. Obtaining medical assistance when judged necessary.
Obtaining specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times. Ensuring completion of specimen collection functions according to protocol. Ensuring that specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing. Resolving specimen identification and/or requisition problems and clarifies requests.
Entering, releasing, and verifying test requests into the computer ! system as needed.
Processing specimens for testing, including aliquoting, while maintaining proper specimen identification.
Responding to additional specimen procurement requests via pager and/or phone from dispatch staff.
Following established procedures for logging vehicle use. Keeping Supervisor informed of current driving status.
Assisting with inventory and maintaining supplies and/or equipment.
Instructing employees and students in phlebotomy, data entry and specimen processing functions.
Documenting appropriate information for quality assurance/improvement according to established protocol.

Qualifications:
High School graduate or equivalent.
Professional Collector certification (CPC) issued by the Drug & Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA) or obtained within 6 months.
Current driver’s license granted by the state of residency with a driving record that meets Aurora fleet safety standards and proof of auto! mobile liability insurance.
Basic computer skills including experie! nce using computer software applications.
Keyboarding and typing skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good listening and decision making skills. Ability to use the telephone effectively with a clear speaking voice and a courteous manner.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other hospital and laboratory employees.

Scheduled Hours:
Sunday-Thursday 10:00pm-6:30am. Every other Saturday 10:00pm-6:30am.
