UW Hospitals and Clinics clinical laboratories are a comprehensi! ve provider of laboratory testing, expert medical interpretation of specimens and innovation in laboratory technology. The laboratories play an essential role in the quality and safety of patient care by providing accurate diagnostic and treatment information to caregivers and patients.
The Medical Technologist (MT) - Associate performs basic and increasingly complex diagnostic testing and additional activities necessary to provide laboratory testing services at all UWHCA laboratory testing sites. With guidance, individuals in this position develop proficiency in routine interpretive testing and assessing the validity of test results. Duties also include specimen receiving, basic calibration monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting activities. Resolution of problems requires independent interpretation and judgment. Unusual circumstances or problems are referred to more senior staff. Individuals work under the close supervision of a laboratory manager, moving to ! limited supervision once past the probationary period. Additio! nal responsibilities are assigned as required and may include inventory and ordering, maintenance activities and bench level instruction of MLT or MT students and new employees.
The MT Associate brings forth the specialized scientific and technical knowledge essential to perform most analytical testing in the Clinical Laboratories. The scope of testing is limited by training, experience or specialty education and licensing requirements (i.e., cytotechnologist).
Organizational skill and ability to prioritize test requests are critical to successful performance. Multiple test requests, with different or the same priority, must be effectively organized by the individual in order to maximize diagnostic impact. A high degree of accuracy and reliability is required to ensure results that can assist in the timely diagnosis and treatment of patients. Duties require interaction with clinical staff and physicians, i.e., explanation of test results or answering a var! iety of questions.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science required; MT preferred
2. Two (2) years work experience preferred
3. MT(ASCP) or equivalent preferred
4. Demonstrated organizational skills
5. Strong communication skills
6. Strong attention to detail
7. Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance principles
8. Physical Requirements: Light: Ability to lift up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one, which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met

This position is being posted at multiple levels. Selection would be based on seniority as follows:! the candidate with the highest seniority across all levels will be sel! ected unless the candidate at the higher level has special skills and abilities required for the position.
Pay
This is a Non-Represented position and falls into Pay Grade WP1. The salary range begins at $21.57 per hour. Education, experience, tenure and internal equity may be taken into consideration when job offers are extended.
Work Schedule
Hours are Monday through Friday from 12:00pm to 8:00pm with some weekends and holidays required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.
