Government Program Review: The Government Programs Counselor reviews patients fi! nancial circumstances, assesses their eligibility for government programs and assists patients with the application process. This position serves as the in-house expert in government health care coverage programs eligibility criteria. The incumbent provides consultation upon request by clinical staff and advises patients on their health care coverage options. A significant degree of independent judgment and decision making is required to address the full range of tasks and responsibilities. This position has a significant impact on hospital reimbursement.
Qualifications
1. Undergraduate degree in social work or health care related field required.
2. Three to four years of experience in health care/social work environment. Experience with government health care assistance programs required.
3. Decision making skills required to function successfully required.
4. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and work independently required.
5. Proven! ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information ! required .
6. Maintains a high level of customer service required .
7. Consistently maintains effective and cooperative working relations with co-workers, supervisory, medical management staff and the general public required .
8. Demonstrates service excellence and incorporates the mission and core values into daily activities required.
9. The ability to interview patients and/or families to obtain accurate (sometimes sensitive) information required.
10. Excellent written and oral communication skills required .
11. Proven productivity and quality outcomes required .
12. Dependable and reliable in achieving the goals and objectives of the position required .
13. Proven aptitude and willingness to learn new responsibilities required .
14. Demonstrated ability to use computers/software programs required .
15. Knowledge of state and federal medical assistance programs required .
16. Excellent organizational, follow-through and priori! ty setting skills required .
17. Ability to work well under moderate to high degrees of pressure required.
18. Physical Requirements: Light: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
Pay
This is a Non-Represented position and falls into Pay Grade 5. The salary range begins at $38,091 per year. Education, experience, tenure and internal equity may be taken into consideration when job offers are extended.
Work Schedule
Day shift, four days weekly.
