The Pediatric Critical Care Transport Nurse Clinician (PCCTN) is a competent pediatric registered nurse with ! demonstrated expertise in the care of the critically ill or injured pediatric patient. The Pediatric Critical Care Transport Nurse Clinician assumes responsibility and accountability for the delivery and management of the critically ill or injured infant, child or adolescent during inter-facility pediatric ground transport in partnership with the Pediatric Transport Respiratory Therapist and a physician if needed. (The PCCTN, the pediatric respiratory therapist and on occasion, the physician comprise the Transport Team). The Pediatric Critical Care Transport Nurse Clinician systematically and continuously collects and assesses data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide therapeutic care and stabilization of the pediatric patient/family. He/she performs all required elements of a nursing assessment including but not limited to physical examination, assessment of readiness to learn, psychosocial assessment, functional assessment and utilization of patient! /family specific assessment scales as required. The PCCTN in c! ollaboration with the Transport Team, implements plans of care, performs ongoing assessments and revises plan of care based on assessment and/or changes in patient condition; involves patient in treatment plans as possible, utilizes equipment required for treatment /procedures appropriate to age, requests consults as needed and educates patient/family about the disease process and treatment. The PCCTN will evaluate the effects of any intervention and adjust care accordingly; perform systematic and ongoing assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions; evaluate effectiveness of instruction/teaching with patient/family incorporating factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in the planning and delivery of care, and establishes goals and strategies for meeting the discharge or continuing care needs of the patient/ family. The PCCTN demonstrates appropriate and effective delegation as governed by the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing and policies of UWHC! and the PCCTN decision¿s and actions on behalf of patients are determined in a professional and ethical manner. The first priority will be to assure that the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Ambulance is in a state of readiness at all times. The Pediatric Critical Care Transport Nurse Clinician (PCCTN) will be assigned to the PICU or other duties within the hospital when not on a transport and will receive assignments that allow for immediate release to respond to an assigned transport. Upon proper training and competency evaluation, assignments for the transportation of adult patients and assignments to Med Flight may be required.Must be physically able to assist with the loading and unloading of the ambulance stretcher with all of the required equipment to support the needs of the patient. The PCCTN utilizes research findings in his/her practice, demonstrates knowledge of and participates in improving organizational performance activities ,acquires and maintains knowle! dge in nursing practice assuming responsibility for the professional de! velopment of self, other nursing staff and students. Education: 1. BSN preferred. Work Experience: 1. Three (3) years of recent (last 12 months) pediatric critical care or demonstrated competencies in the care, treatment and stabilization of the critically ill and or unstable infant, child, adolescent and young adult required.2. Critical Care Transport experience preferred.Licenses & Certifications: 1. Current Registration as a professional registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin required.2. CPR and PALS certification required. 3. Must attain NRP within 6 months of hiring date required.Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities1. Knowledge regarding quality improvement and standards of care within practice area.2. Experience in teaching patients and families.3. Excellent communication skills. Ability to effectively delegate and supervise the work of other nursing team members4. Based on unit needs, additional knowledge, skills and abilities may be requiredOn-Call R! esponsibility On-call required. Call response time of 45 minutes (45 minutes from phone call, prepared to board ambulance).Physical Requirements: Heavy: Ability to lift up to 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
