BloodCenter of Wisconsin is currently seeking a physician to join their growing Transfusion Medicine (TM) service of the Medical Sciences Institute. Physic! ians in TM direct transfusion services within 3 hospitals/healthcare systems in greater Milwaukee area; provide direct patient care for therapeutic apheresis; consult with physicians re: transfusion medicine issues and bleeding disorders; promote blood management at affiliated hospitals; provide medical direction of specialized laboratories at BloodCenter, and participate in on-call responsibilities for issues with donors, blood collection and processing. Collectively over 110,000 blood products are transfused annually and nearly 2000 therapeutic apheresis and stem cell collection procedures are performed at the institutions directly served by the TM physicians.
The successful candidate would be expected to participate in clinical and/or applied research as well as participate in educational responsibilities and activities. BloodCenter has an active Transfusion Medicine Fellowship and Specialist in Blood Banking Program. Physicians provide teaching for medical stud! ents, residents and fellows and on-going transfusion therapy e! ducation for medical staff at our affiliated hospitals. He/she would be expected to participate in academic programs of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Froedtert Hospitaland the Medical College of Wisconsin and in AABB, ASH, ASFA, SABM, or other related professional organizations. MD or DO degree and board-certification in Pathology, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics required, as well as board certified/eligible in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine.
